Did Adam really name the trees also? Miki from Franklin, TN
Dear Miki,
The Bible does not tell us whether Adam named any trees. We know that he was asked to name the cattle, birds, and other animals that might have been a suitable companion for him (read Genesis 2:18-20). Our wise God probably decided that trees would not come close to providing the affection, love, and comfort that he needed. Of course, we know that Adam had been given the names of at least two trees: one was the Tree of Life, and the other was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. As time went on, Adam, Eve, and their descendants would have given names to the trees and other plants that were important to them.
