Why do dogs bury bones? Natalie of Boise, ID
Dear Natalie,
The last dog I asked said she didn't know why she did it! But seriously, scientists think dogs bury bones out of instinct. As you may know, domestic dogs are thought to have descended from wild wolves that were tamed many years ago. In the wild, wolves often bury their leftovers and return to them when they get hungry. So, if your dog is burying bones, she may be trying to tell you that she has more than enough to eat!
