Who made God? — Sallie Potter, age 9, Comer, Georgia

Dear Sallie:

I know this might sound a little strange, but God wasn’t created. He always has been. The Bible teaches that God is eternal. The Scripture speaks of "the eternal God" (Deuteronomy 33:27) Whose "years will have no end" (Psalm 102:27). He is "from everlasting to everlasting" (Psalm 90:2). In other words, He had no beginning and He will have no ending. God is not dependent upon anything or anyone outside Himself for His own existence. I know it is difficult to understand God’s eternal nature, because everything that we see around us has a beginning and ending. God, however, has neither. Isn’t it great to know that God exists and that we always can count on Him to be there for us?
